What is BS4 Good Gardens?
BS4 Good Gardens is an award scheme dedicated to celebrating beautiful front gardens within the Bristol postcode BS4. Every year, residents nominate their roads, and a fantastic team of volunteer judges canvas the neighbourhood, awarding stickers to those who enhance the visual appeal of their streets.
The scheme was originally set up in 2015 by local resident Ruth Drury and every year it has grown in popularity.
I’ve won an award but I didn’t enter the competition!
Well done! Every year, residents nominate their roads and every visible front garden in that road is automatically entered!
I have a beautiful back garden, can that be judged?
Unfortunately only gardens visible from the street can be entered. If you have a back garden you are proud of please feel free to post a photo to our Facebook group!
Nominations & Judging
How do I nominate my road?
Road nominations open on the 16th March and close on the 31st March every year. You can nominate your road (and sign up to be a judge) on our nominations page.
When does judging happen?
Judging takes place throughout the month of June. We cannot say exactly when each road will be judged as this is up to the individual volunteer – keep an eye on our Facebook page for updates!
Why wasn’t my road included?
BS4 is a huge area and we need as many volunteer judges as roads involved. This is why a road needs to be nominated during the nomination period in March.
My garden looks great, why didn’t I win an award?
We’re sorry that you are disappointed this time. Unfortunately we can only allocate a limited number of awards per road each year. This keeps winning an award special! We wish you better luck next year!
How do I sign up to be a judge?

Donations
Why do you ask for donations, where is the money spent?
We couldn’t continue this great scheme without the generosity of local residents and businesses. Donations go towards the running of the BS4 Good Gardens awards. This includes covering the cost of the stickers, leaflets and website.
How can I donate?
Thank you for wanting to contribute! BS4 Good Gardens now has a bank account! We collect donations through Collctiv for convenience – This is a free to use service but the default option will add on an optional processing fee to support Collctiv so do make sure to choose whether you want to pay this or not before completing payment.

Judges
Can I get extra awards?
Even though award numbers are limited, we will try our best to make sure that judges can award as many houses as they see fit. Do get in touch if you need extras – and if you have spare please return them if you can so we can redistribute!
I signed up to be a judge but I can no longer take part, what should I do?
Our volunteers make this scheme possible but we understand that sometimes circumstances change. If you can no longer judge and can’t find anyone to do it for you, please let us know as soon as possible by emailing bs4goodgardens@gmail.com.
